The Parks Clubhouse

The Parks Clubhouse services the1880 units of The Parks Lifestyle Apartments in the Riversands mixed-use precinct to the North of Johannesburg. The Parks Lifestyle Apartments provide secure high-density residential units for rent ranging in size from bachelor and one-bedroom units to three-bedroom family units.

The clubhouse offers a central shared space for all residents to relax, socialise, work and meet colleagues or visitors, and exercise. It includes a gym, swimming pool, cinema, games room, a casual lounge and bar with a meeting room on the mezzanine level.

Given the wide range of uses that this lifestyle hub supports for residents the interior design responds to the residential estate aesthetic of exposed brick, steel and concrete yet cleverly uses eclectic furnishing and detailing to create spaces with varied ambiences. Set back nooks in the restaurant with casual seating and coffee tables sit alongside a more formal dining layout. The lounge and bar include bar stool seating with clusters of chairs and side tables, many of which are sourced from local design and manufacturers, while a mezzanine level caters for meetings and larger gatherings in a casual settee based corner lounge and a business meeting room.

A rich colour palette of blues and greens with textured dark and light greys run throughout the clubhouse and are combined with neutral wood furnishing and details to create elegant and inviting settings. A backdrop of hanging planters and tailor-made light features enliven the double volume spaces and create a sense of intimacy and comfort within the bright, naturally lit environment that results from the extended glass walls that frame the spaces.

The warm red of the exposed brick is playfully used throughout the clubhouse. It is a canvas for neon signage in the gym, a detail in the cosy twenty seater cinema and a stylish finish on the pizza oven in the restaurant. In this way the design and detailing provides a cohesive identity for the lifestyle offering of the clubhouse yet provides a broad possibility and range of ways to use the facility.
